The world’s most innovative companies are pushing ahead by embracing Artificial Intelligence (AI), according to a recent report from BCG. The global management consultant found that other interesting shifts have taken place when it comes to today’s strongest innovators.
The annual survey, which lists the 50 most innovative companies in the world for 2019, shows that the top innovators are also AI leaders. Calling itself an “AI first” company, Alphabet/Google tops the list. Apple loses the number one spot for the first time in 13 years.
- Amazon comes in at second, using AI in its retail business, pioneering the voice recognition technology Alexa and platform-based services.
- At number three, Apple helped pioneer Siri, the voice recognition software, and provided a premier virtual workplace for app developers with its iOS platform.
Besides the digital natives – Google, Amazon, Netflix and IBM –, traditionally non-digital industries are also actively leveraging AI, such as Boeing, Marriott and various automakers. They are also increasingly looking to platforms and ecosystems as a way to benefit from external data, ideas and capabilities.
