Five of the top 10 most innovative companies in 2015 are in the field of technology, yet five are not. Apple and Google lead the list, followed by Tesla Motors, Microsoft, Samsung, Toyota, BMW, Gilead Sciences, Amazon and Daimler, according to The Boston Consulting Group’s (BCG) tenth annual global survey of the state of innovation.
As innovation rises in importance and competition tightens, all companies across sectors are striving to find new and better solutions, adopting technological advances to meet their business goals. Almost 80% of respondents ranked innovation as either their company’s top or top three priority. This is ‘the highest percentage since we began asking the question in 2005, when 66% said innovation was their top or among their three top priorities’, states the BCG report.
Science and technology are still seen as key elements in innovation. In this survey, the BCG also looks at four strategies keeping these companies in the game: an emphasis on speed, well-run research and development processes, the use of technological platforms and the systematic exploration of adjacent markets.
