SunShot Catalyst, developed by the US Department of Energy, is the winner of the International Society for Professional Innovation Management (ISPIM) 2015 award. This open innovation initiative seeks to expand solar power use dramatically.
SunShot sources ideas from the public, from ideation through to pitches, prototypes and incubation. As compared to previous approaches, the programme has delivered notable results: a 17-fold increase in projects – 50% faster and at 10% of the cost.
ISPIM launched the Grand Prize earlier this year. It recognises excellence in the areas of innovation management that ‘are so often overshadowed by the innovation itself’.
The final competition took place at the ISPIM conference in Budapest, in June. Cisco Technology Radar and Tata Group Innovation Forum also impressed the expert judges and the 250 ISPIM delegates attending the event, but SunShot Catalyst conquered the majority of votes.
Founded in 1983, ISPIM is the oldest and largest innovation association in Europe, bringing together researchers, consultants, public bodies and industrialists interested in innovation management.
