For the second year in a row, Forbes considers Tesla the world’s most innovative company, while SalesForce.com holds the second position. On its sixth edition, Forbes’ list is published in the September 13 issue of the magazine.
Producing ‘highly desirable electric vehicles’, yet sometimes struggling with its innovations, Forbes’ contributors Jeff Dyer and Hal Gregersen say that Tesla’s future depends on ‘whether or not it can become profitable and deliver on its huge market value.’
The ranking is dominated by US-based companies (9 out of 10) and half taken by life science and biotechnology organisations. Regeneron Pharmaceuticals comes in third , Incyte in fourth and Alexion Pharmaceuticals in fifth. In sixth, you find Under Armour Inc., followed by Monster Beverage Corp., Unilever Indonesia TBK, PT, Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc and Biomarin Pharmaceutical Inc.
Forbes World’s Most Innovative Companies list is chosen using the wisdom of the crowd method, relying on ‘investors’ ability to identify firms they expect to be innovative now and in the future’, and the difference between their market valuation and the net present value of cash being generated from existing businesses.
