More than 80% of manufacturers have adopted more collaborative business models that involve suppliers, customers and other and stakeholders. However, this transformation appears to be still in its early stages, according to KPMG’s 2015 Global Manufacturing Outlook ‘Preparing for battle – Manufacturers get ready for transformation’.
Respondents increasingly see innovation as a path to growth, as half say that their strategic focus is innovation-led. In particular, they are seeking to improve return on innovation investments, as well as speed-to-market and supply chain efficiency – and doing this in a collaborative way.
Yet, initiatives for real next generation strategies are still modest, Jeff Dobbs – KPMG’s global head of industrial manufacturing – advises. ‘Manufacturers need to also focus on continuously enhancing and adapting their innovation models if they hope to survive.’
Forbes conducted the survey on behalf of KPMG, reaching 386 senior executives involved in defence, medical, aerospace, automotive, conglomerate, engineering and industrial products worldwide. Check out the full report here.
