From Apple CEO Tim Cook to actress Emma Watson, ‘Time’ magazine has revealed the most influential people of the year list – cultural icons, industry titans, artists, leaders and pioneers. Kanye West tops the ranking, which features in the 27 April issue. Invited to write about this musician and record producer, Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk called him a ‘boundary breaker’ who wants ‘everybody else to do the same: to engage, question, push boundaries’.
In the tech business, the list mentions visionary Elizabeth Holmes, YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman. It also includes both start-ups and major companies’ leaders, such as Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky and AirAsia CEO Tony Fernandes.
As expected, country and religious leaders make the list: the Pope; Presidents Barack Obama, Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping; Chancellor Angela Merkel and US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, among others. ‘Time’ also picked out artists Björk, Bradley Cooper and Taylor Swift as trendsetters.
