Practitioners' Guide

Having previously laid out five new rules for innovators, Nicholas Evans, vice president and general manager at Unisys, has now focused on the five critical areas for innovation management software evolution, in his recent article in Computerworld.com. Still, he advises managers, when choosing a platform, to prioritise their programme goals and objectives to drive software decisions – and not the other way around.

The need to develop end-to-end processes and to explore and scale – not just ‘ideate’ – digital tools is one of the main challenges on the innovation software roadmap. A focus on ecosystem platforms and disruptive ecosystem strategies, as well as the development of next generation enablers, also make Evans’s list.

This topic has gained greater relevance as innovation management software has become the bone structure of companies’ innovation programmes. In fact, Nicholas notes that IDC analysts also predict that, by 2018, more than half of all large organisations ‘will create and/or partner with industry platforms’.
